The following photographs are from my recent trip to Watkins Glen for the annual Grand Prix Festival. It was once again a huge success. The organizers couldn’t have asked for better weather. The day of the event, Friday September 11th, saw sunny skies, temperatures in the low 70’s, low humidity, and later in the day a very refreshing breeze.
The crowd was overflowing, and the cars were the stars, as always. This year the featured marque(s) for the festival were the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird. It was a day filled with fun and lots of activities, and ultimately we settled in for the tribute laps in front of Maria’s Tavern. They traditionally feature a roof-top band and $3 keg beers on the sidewalk. Who could ask for more. It’s a real party atmosphere. 😉

Cheers!‘On The Grid’ at the International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC) is Merv Treichler’s Monza, winner of the 1975 Kendall 250 at The Glen.The festival-goers enjoyed a beautiful sunny day. Here, sitting under the shade in front the Schuyler County Court House, is Dale Earnhardt Sr’s 1997 IROC Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am.The Legends Speak event in Lafayette Park welcomed famed NASCAR announcer, Mike Joy, and his son Scott. They were co-Grand Marshal’s of the festival. They also drove historic Chevrolet Camaro’s in the SVRA event up at the track.N. Franklin Street was lined with cars and filled with enthusiastic racing fans.Once again the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival program featured the stunning artwork of Robert Gillespie.
